CHANDRA is a collaborative project that reimagines the traditional music of the Iberian Peninsula from a jazz perspective. The quintet creates original compositions and arrangements, exploring what folklore means to each of its members within their respective cultural and artistic contexts. Improvisation plays a fundamental role, both as a musical practice and as a way to keep tradition alive and evolving.

The group brings together five artists with diverse backgrounds and a shared commitment to creative exploration: María Fajardo and Nené Álvarez on vocals, Javier Galiana on piano, Javier Delgado on double bass, and Guillermo Martín-Viana on drums and percussion. María Fajardo is a jazz vocalist and educator based in Madrid, active in the contemporary jazz scenes of Asia and Latin America. Nené Álvarez, a performing artist in theater and dance, brings a multidisciplinary sensibility shaped by her musical beginnings within her family and her growing commitment to music. Pianist and composer Javier Galiana is a key figure in Andalusian jazz, fusing flamenco, theater, and orchestral composition in his work. Bassist Javier Delgado bridges classical traditions and jazz, with a career encompassing collaborations in Europe, North Africa, and Asia. Guillermo Martín Viana, percussionist and multimedia artist, moves between jazz, experimental music, and interdisciplinary performance, connecting sound, images, and live interaction.

Together, they create a space where traditional forms, the language of jazz, and improvisation converge, offering a contemporary approach to folk music that is both personal and collective.
